Eyeliner FAQ
Frederick, Maryland

Find answers to common questions about Permanent Eyeliner, Lash Enhancement, SoftTap Eyeliner, healing, aftercare, touch-ups, and eyeliner services in Frederick, Maryland.

Why Choose IndelliBelle?

Why choose IndelliBelle for  permanent eyeliner?
I specialize in SoftTap permanent eyeliner, a hand-applied technique that offers exceptional precision with less trauma to the delicate eyelid area than traditional machine methods.
How much experience do you have?
I have been helping clients enhance their natural beauty in Frederick, Maryland for over 10 years. During every appointment, I personally perform the consultation, mapping, design, pigment selection, and procedure to ensure consistency and attention to detail.
What is SoftTap eyeliner?
SoftTap is a manual permanent makeup technique that implants pigment using a hand-held tool rather than a machine. This allows for excellent control and a softer healed result.
Why do clients choose SoftTap over machine eyeliner?
Many clients find SoftTap more comfortable because there is no constant vibration from a tattoo machine near the eyes.
What if I'm nervous about getting eyeliner tattooed?
That's completely normal. We'll discuss your goals, answer questions, draw your design beforehand, and make sure you're comfortable every step of the way.
Why do clients travel to IndelliBelle?
Clients choose IndelliBelle because of the personalized approach, conservative design philosophy, natural-looking results, and commitment to educating clients throughout the entire process. My goal is simple: create brows that make your mornings easier while still looking like you. ✨

Candidates & Safety

Who is not a good candidate for permanent eyeliner?
Certain eye conditions, recent eye surgeries, infections, pregnancy, and some medical conditions may require postponement or physician clearance.
Can I get permanent eyeliner if I wear contact lenses?
Yes. Contact lenses must be removed before the procedure and can typically be worn again 7 days after healing guidelines are followed.

Can I get eyeliner if I've had LASIK?
Yes, but most clients should wait at least 6 months after LASIK and obtain clearance from their physician if needed.
Can you tattoo my waterline?
No. Pigment is not implanted into the waterline because it can affect the Meibomian glands and increase the risk of dry eye complications.
Is permanent eyeliner safe?
When performed by a trained professional using proper techniques, pigments, and sanitation protocols, permanent eyeliner is considered very safe.

Consultation & Choosing the Right Eyeliner

Can I see the design before we start?
Absolutely. Every eyeliner treatment includes a pre-draw approval before any pigment is applied.
What is the difference between Lash Enhancement and Classic Eyeliner?
Lash Enhancement places pigment between the lashes for a fuller lash appearance. Classic Eyeliner creates a more visible eyeliner look above the lash line.
Which eyeliner style is best for me?
This depends on your eye shape, lifestyle, makeup habits, and desired level of definition. We will discuss all options during your consultation.
Can you wing my eyeliner?
Whether a wing is appropriate depends on your eye shape and anatomy. I generally do not recommend a wing, because what goes up must come down.  Think of how this will look years to come.
Will eyeliner make my eyelashes look fuller?
Yes. Lash Enhancement creates the appearance of thicker, fuller lashes by placing pigment between the lashes.
Can I bring inspiration photos?
Absolutely. Inspiration photos help me understand your preferences and desired outcome.

The Procedure

How long does the appointment take?
Your initial appointment is approximately 2–2.5 hours. Your perfecting session is usually around 1.5–2 hours.
Does it hurt?
Most clients are surprised by how comfortable the procedure is. Topical numbing is used throughout the treatment to minimize discomfort.
Why are there two appointments?
The first appointment creates the foundation. The second appointment allows us to perfect color, thickness, and symmetry once healing is complete.
When is the second appointment?
The perfecting session is usually scheduled 4-6 weeks after your initial appointment.
What happens during the appointment?
We begin with a consultation, discuss your goals, create a pre-draw design, apply numbing, and then implant pigment using the SoftTap method.

Healing & Results

Is there a lot of swelling?
Most clients experience mild swelling for 24–72 hours. It often looks similar to having cried or having irritated eyes.
How long does healing take?
Most healing occurs within 7–10 days, although color continues settling over several weeks.
Will my eyeliner look darker at first?
Yes. Permanent eyeliner will initially appear darker and more defined before softening during healing.
Will my eyeliner scab?
Light flaking is normal. Heavy scabbing is uncommon when aftercare instructions are followed.
What happens if a scab comes off early?
Do not pick at scabs. Premature removal can affect pigment retention.
Can I wear makeup while healing?
Avoid eye makeup until your eyeliner has fully healed and any flaking has resolved.
When will I see my final results?
Most clients see their final healed result after the perfecting session has healed.

Longevity and Maintenance

How long does permanent eyeliner last?
Most clients enjoy their eyeliner for several years before needing a color refresh.
How often do I need a touch-up?
Many clients return every 1–3 years depending on pigment retention, skin type, and lifestyle.

Why does eyeliner fade over time?
Sun exposure, skincare products, skin turnover, and individual body chemistry all contribute to fading.
Will my eyeliner turn blue?
When properly implanted and maintained, modern pigments are designed to fade naturally rather than dramatically changing color.

Why SoftTap?

What is SoftTap eyeliner?
SoftTap eyeliner is a form of permanent makeup performed using a hand-held tool rather than a machine. Tiny deposits of pigment are placed along the lash line using a gentle tapping technique. This allows for exceptional precision and control, making it ideal for the delicate skin around the eyes.
Why do you use SoftTap instead of a machine?
I prefer the SoftTap method because it gives me more control over every pigment placement. The hand-applied technique allows me to create soft, natural-looking results while minimizing unnecessary trauma to the eyelid. It's more work for me, but often a more comfortable experience for my clients.
Does SoftTap hurt less?
Most clients find SoftTap eyeliner very comfortable. While no permanent makeup procedure is completely pain-free, SoftTap does not involve a buzzing tattoo machine next to your eye. Combined with topical numbing, many clients are surprised by how little discomfort they experience—some even take a nap during their appointment.
Is SoftTap safer for the eyelids?
The eyelid is one of the thinnest and most delicate areas of the body. SoftTap allows for controlled pigment placement with less vibration and less trauma than many machine methods. When performed by a trained professional using proper sanitation and safety protocols, SoftTap is an excellent option for permanent eyeliner.
